EU FP6 project highSol

highSol is a Specific Targeted Research or Innovation Project for the high volume manufacturing of photovoltaic cells. It comprises 7 partners from France, Germany, Italy and Spain supported by the European Commission in the 6th Framework Programme and runs 36 months under the consortium leadership of Fraunhofer IPA.

The project highSol aims at the transformation of innovative manufacturing concepts on a laboratory scale into the full industrial scale. The result will be the demonstration of technologies which will enable the mass manufacturing of photovoltaic products with a serious reduction of manufacturing costs.

The consortium highSol is organized into two layers providing specific knowledge for the target of mass manufacturing. The layer of the end-users (Isofoton, Schott Solar) includes manufacturers from all three manufacturing areas - wafering, cell production and module production. The layer of the suppliers includes automation and equipment specialists (Semco engineering, AMB, Baccini) as well as APC specialists (camLine). Fraunhofer IPA will have the role of the consortium leader and will contribute as an independent and non-profit research institute for automation and APC.
